How to Get the Best Car Security Film

Increasing security concerns are making people realize the need for the best car security films for their vehicles. These PET or polyester films are ideal to protect the occupants and their belongings inside the car as they prevent the glass from shattering. They also protect the interiors from the harsh glare of the sun and harmful UV rays.

Various car accessory companies provide a range of car security films for their customers. However, with so many manufacturers around and so many technical specifications being cited, people are left with no choice but to listen to what the salesperson tells them and often end up choosing films that are not the right one for their car.

Here are a few quick tips to get the best car security film:

The thickness of the film: The security films are available from 100 micrometers and upwards. The thickness determines the level of protection that your car will have. The thickness you ought to choose depends on the dimensions of your car’s windows and glasses. Cars with glasses that are up to 3 mm or 1/8” thick can be secured with 100 micrometer films while those that have double this thickness, i.e. 6 mm or 1/4” need the 175 micrometer security film variety.

The level of protection from the sun: This can be determined from a simple number that is generally denoted as a percentage on the product description or packaging. This percentage number is the heat rejection index and is generally of two types: Infrared Rejection (IRR) and Total Solar Energy Rejection (TSER). The IR percentage indicates the amount of infrared rays that is reflected by the car security film. So if it says that the car security film is 45% IR, it means that it reflects 45% of the IR rays and lets in 55%. TSER, on the other hand, measures the total UV (Ultraviolet), VL (Visible Light), and IR reflection rate. So a TSER of 45% means that the security film rejects 45% of the heat and lets in 55%.

Find the right manufacturer and seller: There are various companies that make car security films. The best ones will always provide detailed information on their packages and also on their websites. In addition, they also offer a warranty.

If you are buying from a stockiest or online seller, then it makes sense to buy from a business which also offers installation services. This is really helpful as you don’t have to take the car to a garage or a car accessories shop to get the film fitted. The seller will do it all for you.
